Gordon MacDonald (New Zealand)

Gordon MacDonald is the Chief Executive of WorkSafe New Zealand.

Gordon has 35 years' experience in health and safety in the United Kingdom. He joined the UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in 1978, ultimately rising to be Acting Deputy Chief Executive before accepting the top job at WorkSafe in 2014.

During his career with HSE, Gordon worked in a wide range of operational and policy areas. He helped develop major hazards legislation to implement European Union Directives, led strategic and research functions in the nuclear industry, managed regional teams of inspectors, and led the Hazardous Industries Division regulating the offshore oil industry and the onshore chemicals and petrochemicals industries.
