Dr John Green
Dr John Green is an internationally acclaimed expert in Safety II – an approach that changes safety management from “avoiding things going wrong” to “ensuring everything goes right”.
John has worked in the oil, gas, petrochemical, electronics, heavy engineering, construction and aviation sectors and has 38 years’ experience of industrial safety. An advocate of challenging traditional or orthodox thinking, he is recognised and respected as someone who does safety differently and as a major force for change in how industrial safety is delivered.
He is currently the Director HSE for Battersea Power Station Development Company who are responsible for the iconic £12 billion mixed commercial and residential project in London – the world's largest private mixed development.
John has held Executive positions with Motorola, British Airways, Alfred McAlpine and Laing O'Rourke.
He has spent periods living and working overseas with in the UAE, Iran, Europe, Hong Kong, parts of the USA and has recently returned from a four year spell in Australia covering Laing O'Rourke operations in the southern hemisphere. At Laing O’Rourke he was central to translating Safety II concepts into initiatives that significantly reduced injury rates at the firm’s Australian business.
John holds qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Risk Management, Change Management, Psychology, Law and Philosophy and is currently studying for an MA in Philosophy and Criminology.
He spends any spare time that he has climbing in Europe and scuba diving across the world or any other pastime that requires exceptional risk management skills.
