Rebecca Macfie (New Zealand)

Rebecca Macfie has more than 25 years of experience in journalism. She is a senior writer with New Zealand Listener. Rebecca has won multiple awards for her current affairs feature writing in the Listener and other publications. She has written for the National Business Review, New Zealand Herald, Christchurch Star, The Press, Independent Business Weekly, and North & South and Unlimited magazines.

Rebecca is the author of Tragedy at Pike River Mine: How and why 29 men died. Her strengths as a reporter and writer penetrate to the heart of the Pike River story and the far-reaching issues it raises. Tragedy at Pike River Mine was a finalist in the non-fiction section of the 2014 NZ Post book awards. It won the New Zealand Society of Authors' Best First Book Award for non-fiction, the Bert Roth Award for Excellence in Labour History, and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy media award. Rebecca has a Bachelor of Arts and Post Graduate Diploma in Arts (History) from the University of Otago and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Canterbury. She lives in Christchurch.
