To ensure Aotearoa, New Zealand has the health and safety professionals it needs to keep workers safe, the HASANZ Miller Foundation invests in education. The Foundation makes a long-term investment in building the knowledge, skills and capacity of the health and safety disciplines.

Derek Miller


Derek Miller was a highly respected leader in occupational hygiene, known for his passion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to improving worker health. A Certified Occupational Hygienist and past President of the New Zealand Occupational Hygiene Society, Derek also spent many years on the HASANZ Board and contributed to several of its committees, representing the profession with integrity, drive, and deep commitment.

 

He was a founding member of several influential professional bodies, helping shape the development of occupational hygiene both nationally and internationally. With more than thirty years of experience before establishing his consultancy, Derek was widely admired for his warmth, humour, and dedication to mentoring others.

 

His legacy lives on through the many professionals he supported and the organisations and communities he strengthened throughout his career and through the HASANZ Miller Foundation established by his family.


The HASANZ Miller Foundation
was established to build long‑term capability within Aotearoa New Zealand’s health and safety workforce. The Foundation provides structured funding for education, training, and professional development, with the objective of developing competent, well‑equipped professionals who contribute to safer workplaces nationwide.
